Connetix Health Releases mCharts App to Public
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO—Connetix Health announced today the pilot release of its flagship product, mCharts, to residents in Colorado Springs, Denver, and Boulder. mCharts is an application that stores health records securely in HIPAA-compliant services in the cloud, and assists user understanding with a visual body map and Facebook-like timeline.
mCharts is among the first applications to capitalize on US government regulation changes that guarantee patient access to their health records. “The department of Health and Human Services wants patients to have access to their records and be more engaged as partners in care. Studies have shown patients have better outcomes if they are knowledgeable and engaged,” said Connetix Health founder, Kirstan Vandersluis. “We help patients gather their records into a central location, make sense of them, and save money in the process.” The 21st Century Cures Act reinforces patient rights to health data, and introduces steep fines, up to $1M per incident, for vendors or health institutions that can be shown to be “blocking” lawful access. “Health providers have a lot of motivation to give access to patients”, Vandersluis said.
mCharts combines a user’s health records from any number of practices into a single place, providing several options to incorporate these health records into the application. Users can upload electronic records received from any provider. For automated integration, mCharts can be configured to download records from patient portals on behalf of the user. mCharts currently supports collecting records from UCHealth, Centura, Davita, and Mountainview Medical Group patient portals. Additional medical practices are being added each week, with focus on Colorado Springs providers. Finally, users can manually enter health history for conditions that are not available electronically.
A private pre-release has been in progress since September, and feedback from users has led to improvements in usability and connectivity to an increasing number of medical practices. mCharts now has 100 users in the pilot program, primarily in the Colorado Springs area, and another 100 users are being recruited over the coming weeks. Residents of Colorado Springs can sign up now at https://www.mcharts.com/beta.
